SPIRIT WEAR ANYBODY???

ATHLETIC SHIRT
VARIETY OF CLOTHING
Sports North is a leadership oriented group of students who have volunteered their time to help generate school spirit through athletics at Barrie North Collegiate. Sports North raises money for our athletics program through Buy In Activities, Spirit Initiatives and Spirit Wear. This year, the students have decided to sell five (5) different pieces of spirit wear. Every piece of clothing generates a Twoonie for school athletics. If you are interested in spirit wear, please see the Sports North students outside the cafeteria at lunch all this week. If you miss this opportunity, please see Mr. Simms in the Phys-ed Office.

FOOTBALL BANQUET C/O B.ERWIN

I have watched coach Burk Erwin get organized for the 2012 Football Banquet this past week and understand it was a HUGE success.  Congratulations to athletes who received awards last night!  Coach Erwin is a strong believer in creating a Football "PROGRAM" that helps athletes develop as individuals and creates a strong team commitment to Viking Athletics.  Many thanks to all your efforts as a team and a coaching staff.  Viking Pride!

All award winners were acknowledged at the banquet and received awards that will be displayed in the Football hallway outside Gym 3/4.

Many thanks to the parents of Barrie North Football players who helped with the banquet last night.  Coaches appreciate your time and efforts when creating such a special night for these athletes.

FEEL THE LOVE

Congrats to both JR & SR Boys Volleyball Teams on their trip to the GBSSA Tournament on Thursday this week.  Teams will travel to Collingwood for the day and compete for a championship title.  A victory for the Seniors would give them a birth to the OFSAA championships in Hamilton the following week.

FAN BUS - FAN BUS - FAN BUS.... "get on the bus" is the quote of the week!  Viking fans are invited to join the team to watch the SR semi-final game in Collingwood.  The cost for the trip is $10.  Forms and money are due into the PHE office as soon as possible!

OFSAA XC

I had the opportunity to attend the OFSAA XC championships in Brampton to cheer on our Vikes.  For anybody that has never been to an OFSAA event... take a look at this video clip of a typical race at OFSAA Cross Country.  Approximately 250 athletes in each of the divisions will end up starting a race.  Below is the announcement from Coach Ritchie about the two Barrie North Boys who made it to OFSAA.......

The best runners from the province met in Brampton on Saturday for the cross-country running championships.  Competition was ferocious and the fields were enormous, with 350 runners in each category bursting from the start lines.  Two Vikings earned the right  to represent for our region.  Connor Raiku had his first taste of OFSSA , and after a rough start in the mass confusion at the beginning, ran to a very respectable finish in the top half of the field.  Jon Bunn, in his second OFSSA appearance, finished 58th in his field of 350 runners.

This is an exceptional accomplishment. – the runners at OFSSA are  absolutely the elite, some competing at a world class level, and the races are gruelling.   Connor and Jon worked hard to be there, and clearly belonged in this elite.  If f you see them today, make sure you congratulate them

BUNN & RAIKU MOVE ON!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL VIKING X-COUNTRY RUNNERS ON A FANTASTIC SEASON.  I WATCHED ATHLETES AT THE WASAGA BEACH BLUEBERRY HILLS RACE AND EVERYBODY LOOKED STRONG!

BIG SHOUT OUT TO JON BUNN (SR BOYS) AND CONOR RAIKU (MIDGET BOYS) WHO QUALIFIED TO RACE IN THE OFSAA PROVINCIAL EVENT ON NOVEMBER 3RD IN BRAMPTON.

RACING AT OFSAA IS A HUGE EVENT IN THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO AND ATHLETES SHOULD BE PROUD OF THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT.  IF YOU SEE JON AND CONOR IN THE HALLS OF BARRIE NORTH - DEFINITELY CONGRATULATE THEM.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR RACE!!

FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS BEGIN!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL VIKING ATHLETES ON THEIR REGULAR SEASON!  PLAYOFFS BEGIN NEXT WEEK AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME EXCELLENT COMPETITION FROM OUR VIKES!

THE JR BOYS FOOTBALL FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME WAS FANTASTIC, UPSETTING THE SECOND PLACE KODIAKS YESTERDAY... HERE IS COACH HUNTERS ANNOUNCEMENT FROM VTV.....

The Viking junior football team played their best game of the season yesterday defeating the 4-1 second place Bear Creek Kodiaks 8-0.  The Vikings installed a brand new JUMBO offence for the game which proved to be the difference for the offence.  Lead by bone-crushing runs by the fullback tandem of Isiah Miller and Kevin Easton and outstanding blocking by the entire "O" line the vikings dominated the Kodiak defence all day.  Not to be outdone, the Viking defence led was outstanding again - shutting out the opposition for the third time this year.  A key interception by Alex Bolhaar late in the game sealed the victory for the Vikings.  No practice tonight boys, get some well needed rest and recovery for next week's playoff game against the Innisdale Invaders on Tuesday.

EXCELLENT ADVENTURE

The Viking Junior football team had another "excellent adventure" yesterday as they beat the Collingwood Fighting Owls 10-0. The viking defence was stellar limiting the Owl offence to less then 100 total yards and collecting 6 turnovers including interceptions by Alex Bohlar, Riley Leech, and Nick Whalen. Chris Thomas played his best game of the season including a bone-crushing tackle and fumble recovery behind the line of scrimmage that gave the viking offence the ball on the Owl 7 yard line. The lone touchdown was scored by Nate Gaggio with a two point conversion by Aiden Stanley. However the viking offence was their own worst enemy for most of the game accummulating 100 yards of penalties and coughing up the ball a half dozen times. The top player on offence was Kevin Easton who played an outstanding game at guard. Practice tonight boys, lets start getting prepared to meet the undefeated Bear Creek Kodiaks next Thursday.
VIKING FINAL 10-0 IN FAVOUR OF THE VIKES
THANKS TO MR. HAMILTON'S CLASS FOR DOING LINES

Viking Football - A Tough Start to the Season

Our season has been a tough one.  The truth is that we are very young and inexperienced.  We have been competitive in every game at the half...14-0 JOA, 13-9 North, 7-0 Banting, and 0-0 Eastview.  Injuries and mistakes have plagued us in our second halves of our games.  We are still fighting and competing...this week we play Nantyr Shores at home.  Go Vikings!!!

Our half time scores have been close all season - Eastview was no different...the score was 0-0!!

Our Offence moved the times...Eastview has a great defence...but North showed sparks at times.

Defensively...we held them for 3 quarters.  This is an inexperienced team that has given up big plays.

Pre-game...anything can happen.

JR VB VIKES

Congratulations to Riley Watson, Coach Grace and the Junior Boys Volleyball Team on their success against J.O.A. Yesterday.  The team looked strong in the four game series.  Grade 10 Veterans and Grade 9 Rookies all making a contribution to the team's wins.

Young "Vickers" had a 5 point serving series when I passed through the gym.  Rookie Mike McColm had some great plays at the net.  Well done Vikes!

Coaches all Smiles with Viking Win
Many thanks to our Grade 11 student Riley Watson who has taken on the JR Vikes in a Coaching Role.  Riley's leadership, as a young athlete herself, is a fantastic example of Viking Spirit at Barrie North Collegiate.

IKONIKOV AND TEAM ON A ROLL

HUGE CONGRATS and SHOUT OUT to Coach Ikonikov and the Sr Boys Volleyball team for their Tournament VICTORY this past weekend.  The team won the Phoenix Open Sr Tournament.  Freshly clad in the championship T-Shirt on Monday morning, Coach Ikonikov indicated how positive and composed the boys were throughout the tournament.  Keep an eye on this group of athletes as they gear up for a competitive season.  Barrie North students can BUY IN to see the SR Vikes play in a game against JOA on October 11.  Come out and show your school spirit.
Bailey C with a HUGE block!

ENWRIGHT INSPIRES !!

As you walk through the gym doors everyday after school you will find coach Enwright working with the SR GIRLS BASKETBALL players, inspiring hard work, dedication and teamwork.  The Girls Basketball team has played two games so far this season and unfortunately lost each game but it has definitely not been from lack of trying.  Every girl on the floor was putting in a solid effort against St. T's this afternoon.  Good Luck with the rest of your season athletes and coaches!

GOLF SEASON

Sr.Boys Golf

Barrie North's finest travelled to Bracebridge on Tuesday for the GB Golf Championships. With 110 golfers in the field your "Vikings" finished with a team combined score of 333, which was only 8 strokes away from a trip to OFSSA. Both Cody Kotva and Luke Shaule shot 81, placing them tied for 8th, while the rest of team put forth excellent rounds of golf on a beautiful course with near insane pin placements. The Vikings finished fourth behind only Gravenhurst, St.Teresa's and dreaded Eastview Wildcats. Congratulations on a great season.

Thanks to Coach Seca & Coach Laurin for thier time coaching this year!
